More capability
AI and automation allow a decision to travel further and faster than the person framing it.
Decision systems for real life and organizations
Brake Your Limit helps people and teams spot what is pushing a decision off course before it becomes costly. Decision Lab is where you practice seeing those patterns and choosing more clearly.
Every decision is produced by an environment.
Every decision leaves behind one.
A two-minute introduction
Ian Brake introduces the thinking behind Decision Lab—and why seeing what is shaping a decision can matter as much as the decision itself.
Hey, I'm Ian.
Have you ever walked away from a conversation and thought of the perfect thing that you wish you said twenty minutes later? Or if you look back on a decision and realize that you missed something that now absolutely seems blatantly obvious?
I know that I have. And it's made me realize something.
For thousands and thousands of years, we've built places to practice almost every important human skill. Athletes practice. Pilots use flight simulators. Musicians rehearse.
But the decisions that shape our careers, our relationships, our businesses and our very lives—we're just freewheeling it and expected to make those right the first time. With no rehearsal. And experiencing the real consequences that come out of them.
That never made any sense to me.
No matter the industry, I kept seeing the same thing. Different people with different businesses, but the same decision patterns.
Where you work. Who you marry. Whether you start the business. Whether you leave the job. Whether you invest or whether you forgive. Whether you speak up. Or if you stay quiet.
Almost every single major direction in your entire life comes back to judgment. And yet there's nowhere that lets us practice it.
So, I built the Decision Lab at Brake Your Limit.
It's a place to think before the consequences matter. Because your advantage isn't knowing more. It's seeing more.
Here, bring a real decision. Or one that you're wrestling with still. And together, we'll challenge the assumptions and uncover the options that you couldn't see on your own. We'll learn from what happens next. And every single outcome makes us all better decision-makers.
So over time, you start seeing what you used to miss, and make better decisions because you see more before you decide.
That is the Decision Lab. Welcome.
Open practice · Decision Patterns
Meet 25 protective patterns across Identity, Choice, Consequence, Reinforcement, and Time—or bring one real decision into an interactive exhibition. Nothing you enter is submitted or stored.
Why this matters now
AI and automation allow a decision to travel further and faster than the person framing it.
Information is abundant, but fragmented attention makes context, consequence, and weak signals easier to miss.
When systems multiply an unexamined assumption, the cost no longer stays close to the original choice.
The advantage is not simply knowing more. It is noticing what is shaping a decision before speed and momentum make it harder to change.
The hidden cost
They look like another week of thinking. Another postponed conversation. Another reasonable explanation. Another option quietly disappearing.
Only time reveals what repeated decisions were building. That accumulated cost is your Decision Tax.

Not another content library
Knowledge can give you more answers. Decision Lab helps you see which question, pattern, or risk needs attention before you choose.
Separate what happened from the story already forming around it.
Make patterns, assumptions, pressure and missing options visible.
Bring the decision into contact with other perspectives and possible futures.
Choose with a clearer view of consequence, timing and what matters.
Return after reality responds. Preserve the lesson in your Decision Ledger.
Inside the Lab
Separate signal from story. Notice assumptions, missing evidence and what your current view has made invisible.
◆Catch recurring interpretations and behaviors while they are still steering.
Recover paths your current perspective removed before the decision began.
Locate whether Identity, Choice, Consequence, Reinforcement or Time carries the load.
See where Time, Energy and Attention are being consumed, protected or compounded.
From one decision to the whole system
A decision environment is everything around a choice: incentives, power, information, trust, time, and repeated behavior. Decision Ecology shows how those conditions shape today’s decision—and how today’s decision shapes what happens next.
