The Decision Lab method

Clarity is not the starting point.
Visibility is.

Decision Lab is a practice for seeing what is shaping judgment, widening the decision space and learning from what reality eventually reveals.

A decision is more than a choice.

It is a moment inside a larger pattern of attention, interpretation, pressure, consequence and environment.

Most decision support begins with the options. Decision Lab begins earlier. It examines how the options became visible, what disappeared from the table, what pressure is carrying the decision and what time is already changing.

The purpose is not to eliminate uncertainty or outsource judgment. It is to see enough of the decision to choose more deliberately.

Six connected practices

The Observatory

Observe before interpreting. Separate what happened from the meaning already attached to it.

Decision Patterns

Recognize the interpretations and behaviors that keep recreating familiar outcomes.

Frames

Find what your current perspective removed from consideration before you began choosing.

Decision Rings

Locate the dominant pressure: Identity, Choice, Consequence, Reinforcement or Time.

The TEA Room

Map what is receiving your finite Time, Energy and Attention—and what trajectory that allocation is building.

Decision Ledger

Preserve the rationale, assumptions, outcome and lesson so experience becomes usable judgment.

The decision cycle

Bring the unfinished decision

Real decisions, tensions and questions belong in the Lab before they become tidy stories.

Build the Decision Profile

Name the visible question, dominant Ring, missing evidence and what needs pressure-testing.

Use the right room

Observe, map TEA, widen a Frame, model a future, test a Data Point or enter a confidential Decision Council.

Return after reality responds

Move the decision into Outcomes, record the Course Correction and preserve what the next decision should know.
